2017 12: Aromatherapy Newsletter December 2017

Green Valley Aromatherapy – December 2017

Happy Christmas to everyone!

Best Wishes for a peaceful and aromatic New Year.

For those of you ordering parcels for Christmas, please see the ‘Did You Know’ section of this newsletter. It can be found at the bottom and has all the important dates for December listed.

People ask me why I started making blends, but like most things in my life it just happened! A friend of mine was practicing, among other things, reflexology. She asked me for a ready-made blend of oils that would suit people old or young, male or female and had general properties for feeling good, relaxed and energized.

From this request, Tranquility was born and this blend suited most of her requirements. The essential oils chosen, eventually,  were BergamotLavenderGeranium, and Ylang Ylang.

All the best,

Barb

P.S. My New Year’s Resolution is to not make one if I am not 100% sure I can keep it!

Profile on eucalyptus globulus essential oil:

Eucalyptus Globulus essential oil, sometimes referred to as Blue Gum, is a must for your wish list as it has so many everyday uses. It is an immune-stimulant. Everyone needs this to stand up to all of the bugs that are just waiting to get into your system. Eucalyptus Globulus is an anti-inflammatory. As you get older, you seem to get so many aches and pains from arthritis and the flu. Adding Eucalyptus Globulus to carrier oil, cream or gel, is like the Vicks we used for everything when we were kids.

I used Eucalyptus Globulus in emu oil on my husbands knee after his surgery.  This oil is also good for circulation if you are not getting around as much as you used to. Eucalyptus Globulus essential oil is one of my favourites for bronchitis, sore throats and coughs. I place 3 drops of Eucalyptus in a bowl of hot water, place a towel over my head and the bowl and inhale deeply.

Profile on lavender essential oil:

I have so much I can say about Lavender. It has a wonderful aroma that is enjoyed by both men and women. Lavender has so many wonderful properties covering mental, physical and emotional health and yet, it is one of the safest essential oils to use. While modern science can duplicate the fragrance, it has been unable to duplicate the benefits, so make sure what you are purchasing is a pure essential oil and not a fragrance oil.

Lavender is a good oil to start using on young children. You can start with a diffuser in their room at bedtime to help calm them down and allow them to sleep. If your child has cold symptoms, Lavender is a good oil to use as it is anti-bacterial, anti-anxiety, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory. Great for snuffly noses, sore throats, muscle aches and irritability. You can’t beat that eh!!!

Another suggestion is to give your child a foot massage using 5ml of carrier oil with 3 drops of Lavender essential oil. With my grandchildren, I try to make this a special time so that my whole attention is directed to the child. I usually spend about 10 minutes with each child, starting with the youngest. She goes to her room, lays on top of the covers and I put a small towel under her feet. When we are finished, I wipe off any surplus oil and tuck her in with a goodnight kiss.

Profile on jolly holiday blend

Jolly Holiday was created to send a deliciously warm and festive atmosphere around your home. It is made up from Amyris essential oil, Cedarwood essential oil, Cinnamon essential oil, and Mandarin essential oil.

Amyris essential oil is a base note and is calming, a stress reliever and a sedative. Cedarwood is also a base note, calming and a sedative. It has been suggested that Cedarwood is good for alopecia, I do not know. However I do know that it is good for cold and flu symptoms. I also use it for sore and stiff joints due to arthritis as it helps to eliminate lactic acid and move toxins from the joints.
Cinnamon essential oil is a middle note and is a warm, comforting oil. It is a stimulant and is considered to be a glandular system stimulant. Mandarin is a top note to help balance the blend. It is a digestive stimulant, which is why I choose it after a big Christmas dinner. Mandarin is sedative, calming and uplifting. 3 Great properties to have in an oil. It is also a lymph cleanser and is good for grief, insomnia, emotional shock and hysteria.
All of the properties in this blend make it a great essential oil blend to have around at Christmas Time.

Recipe for a Luxurious Beard

Beards seem to be coming back into fashion for the men. We had a trip to England this summer and I was amazed at the amount of men wearing them. This led me to think that what they needed was a good carrier oil and essential oil mix to keep their beard in good condition. We do not have many male customers at Green Valley, but this is starting to grow. Maybe if they read this they will start to think more about using essential oils.

Put all of these ingredients into a 60ml container and shake well. The best time to use this blend is in the morning after you have washed your face. Do not dry your face completely. Leave it a little damp. Pour a small amount of the product on your fingers and rub your hands together. Massage onto the beard starting from the neck, upwards, making sure to get all of the hair. To finish, comb the beard into place. The comb will distribute the oil around evenly.
