2019 06: Aromatherapy Newsletter June 2019
Green Valley Aromatherapy – June 2019
Hello Aroma Friends,
Happy June! Only a few more days and the children will be finishing school for the summer. This is your time to plan and prepare in order to keep your little ones occupied and outdoors, enjoying nature at its best.
My families will be off camping in remote places, having camp fires and making s’mores over the open fire. You would not believe all of the gear that goes with them! Inflatables, games, outside lights, art supplies, bedding, food, first aid kits, bottles of water and changes of clothes for everyone.
Do not forget to pack your essential oils. Here is a list of my six favourites to take on a camping trip:
- Eucalyptus Globulus – helps with fevers, headaches, coughs, throat infections, muscle aches, cuts, blisters, skin infections and insect bites.
- Grapefruit – helps with stress, mental fatigue, depression, mental exhaustion. It can also help with detoxing and is a good digestive stimulant.
- Lavender – Do not forget your Lavender! It is calming and relaxing, anti-inflammatory for burns, including sunburns, an insect repellent and takes away the itch if you do get a bite.
- Rhododendron – helps you deal with emotional and mental pain, is a balancing oil and is recommended as an aid to the circulation.
- Peppermint – may help with headaches, migraines and sinus congestion. It is considered a mental stimulant.
- Geranium – suggested for menopausal problems, depression, PMS as a mosquito repellent and in skin care preparations.
All the best,
Barb
Profile on Ravintsara essential oil:
I know I have profiled this essential oil before, but people still get confused between Ravintsara and Ravensara. We only stock Ravintsara as we consider it more useful than Ravensara.
The general properties of Ravintsara include: immuno-stimulant, muscle relaxant, anti-inflammatory, nervine, febrifuge (reduces or prevents fever).
A friend of mine’s husband got shingles and she couldn’t think of what to use. I suggested Ravintsara as we have had some positive feedback that it works well. She confirmed that it did the trick for her husband and helped him to feel better quickly.
Ravintsara essential oil is a good oil for children and is considered a gentler version of Eucalyptus. Some of the conditions that it is recommended for include: chronic respiratory problems, cold sores, genital herpes, muscular tension and depression.
Profile on tranquility blend:
Tranquility was one of the first blends I ever made. I have to admit I was concentrating on a good aroma. Fortunately the synergy has worked well calming and relaxing those who try it.
Tranquility blend is made up from Lavender essential oil, Bergamot essential oil, Geranium essential oil and Ylang Ylang essential oil. You can use this blend in the bath, in a diffuser or in a relaxing massage. It is also available as a ready to use product diluted in Sweet Almond Oil as a 30ml Personal Massage Roller (PMR) and in Coconut oil as a 10ml On the Run roll on (OTR).
Tranquility is a great blend to use in your diffuser. Apart from being a fresh, flowery aroma, it is great for calming down tired, fractious children.
- Lavender essential oil is well known as calming and balancing.
- Bergamot essential oil is known to help with anxiety and depression.
- Geranium essential oil is an anti-depressant and is balancing.
- Ylang Ylang essential oil is a sedative and slows rapid breathing.
profile on avocado oil
Avocado oil is a thick, penetrating oil that is rich in vitamins A, C, D and E as well as proteins, beta-carotene, potassium, lecithin and fatty acids.
Avocado has become very popular as a rich, nourishing food. I don’t remember seeing it when I was young, but realize now the enormous benefits from this fruit.
You will see and feel a difference if you use this oil on your skin. Especially if you have added essential oils. Avocado oil softens and nourishes dry, dehydrated skin as it is easily absorbed. It is known for reducing age spots and healing scars.
There is some evidence that Avocado oil shields your skin from ultra-violet radiation. I have not tried it, but would be interested to know if it helps. Avocado is a heavy oil which suggests it would be a better night oil. I have used it during the day as I have dry skin and I find that it soon soaks right in.
My younger son has psoriasis. When on holiday in Australia he found relief when he went swimming in a Tea Tree Lake. We are now trying a blend in Avocado oil with Tea Tree essential oil, Geranium essential oil and Grapefruit essential oil. I will let you know how it works.
