2019 10: Aromatherapy Newsletter October 2019

Green Valley Aromatherapy – October 2019

Hello Aroma Friends,
Summer is over and we are almost on Halloween. Now is the time to start the kids on a candy-free diet in anticipation of the ridiculous amounts of candy they will get on Halloween. Have you ever thought of starting a new trend and offering healthy alternatives? I realize these can be expensive, however fruit is readily available at this time of year. We have apples, pears, plums, cherries and rhubarb. Too much for us to use!
There are many inexpensive items that can be given out instead of candy, such as; temporary tattoos, stickers, glider air planes, juice boxes, bouncy balls, honey sticks, mini flashlights, fake moustaches, bubbles, Lego people, glow bracelets, crayons, and spooky spider rings. Do you have any suggestions for alternatives to the traditional candy?

All the best,

Barb

Profile on Cedarwood essential oil:

Cedarwood essential oil has been around for centuries. It is mentioned in many ancient manuscripts, including the bible. Cedarwood is a base note and is steam distilled from the wood in Morocco.

A small study showed that people with alopacia experienced significant hair growth when given a daily scalp massage of Cedarwood, Lavender and Rosemary essential oil (in a carrier oil).

This ancient, reliable essential oil has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties beneficial for many skin conditions. Cedarwood essential oil has some sedative qualities making it beneficial for insomnia. It also has a soothing effect on the mood making it good for anxiety.

Cedarwood may help with symptoms of bronchitis, coughs and colds. It helps to eliminate lactic acid and move toxins from the joints.

Profile on Grapeseed oil:

Grapeseed oil is a carrier oil with little to no odour and a smooth, silky texture. This oil contains many vitamins including Vitamin E, minerals, polyunsaturates, protein and linoleic acid (68-76%) which is very important for the skin and cellular membranes.

  • This is a light oil so is a great choice for the face or for fine hair. It is great for all skin types. Grapeseed oil is a penetrating oil which makes it great for carrying essential oils into your body.

recipe for Dysmenorrhoea (period pains):

Add these drops to a 5ml amber bottle and gently mix together. A nice warm bath with 10 drops of this blend added to it works wonders, especially just before bed.
However, you may be away from home and a bath is not convenient. Instead, you can add the 40 drops into 50mls of Grapeseed oil. Mix well and massage around your abdomen in a clockwise direction.
A natural drink to help with period pains:
  • 15 g of Lemon Balm leaves
  • 15 g of Marjoram leaves
  • 10 g of Lavender flowers

Add these herbs to a pint of boiling water.
