Green Valley Aromatherapy – July 2022
Dear Aromatherapy Friends,
Here we are in the ‘dog days of summer’ and it has taken its time getting here! After the cool, wet June we endured hopefully July will bring about the weather we’ve become accustomed to this time of year. We here at Green Valley Aromatherapy are very much looking forward to a more ‘normal’ summer. Barbeques, beach days, adventures and catching up with family and friends are at the top of our ‘To Do’ list.
Wishing you all a wonderful July!
Aromatically Yours,
Barb Greenwood
Profile on Eucalyptus citriodora essential oil:
Also known as Lemon Eucalyptus, Eucalyptus Citriodora is milder in its chemical composition and gentler in action than Eucalyptus Globulus. This member of the eucalyptus family is especially useful as a bug deterrent and has a scent similar to Citronella. Use in a diffuser or make your own synthetic-free insect repellant during the summer months.
A very good antifungal and antibacterial essential oil, it can be a helpful aid when treating athletes foot.
Though not as strong as other eucalyptus oils, Citriodora can still be beneficial for
asthma, coughs and colds, as well easing sore throats and laryngitis.
Eucalyptus Citriodora can be found in our Tropical Delight Blend.
Profile on Road scents blend:
With summer holidays comes travel and the stresses that inevitably come with it! Whether stuck in traffic, waiting for a ferry or a delayed flight our Road Scents Blend was created specifically to help with stress, anxiety and those frustrated feelings while also uplifting the mood.
Benzoin, Lavender, Litsea Cubeba and Ylang Ylang make this blend relaxing though not sedating. Choose from a variety of car diffusers and help yourself (and your loved ones) have a fabulous trip!
Profile on lavender hydrosol:
As versatile as its essential oil counterpart, Lavender Hydrosol is great to have on-hand throughout the year. A quick spritz can take the edge off anxious feelings while a compress on the forehead or neck can help to alleviate tension headaches.
When applied to an abrasion it will not only cleanse the area but also bring inflammation and discomfort down.
It is suggested that all hydrosols be kept in the refrigerator to extend their shelf life, this also makes them extra refreshing when sprayed onto your face and body during the heat of summer.
recipe for Soothing After Sun Spray:
As summer is finally here it is important to remember to apply sunscreen throughout the day. This task is an easy one to forget when you are having fun, so here is a recipe for a refreshing spray to apply when you’ve had a bit too much sun.
What you will need:
*1/2 cup Lavender Hydrosol
*1/4 cup Peppermint Floral Water
*1/4 cup Aloe Vera Liquid
*1 tbsp Vegetable Glycerine
Add ingredients to your spray bottle and shake to mix well. Best kept in the refrigerator to extend the shelf life and add an extra cooling affect. Apply as needed and allow to soak into your skin.
Did you know:
In July and August, adult male Rufous Hummingbirds are among the first birds to head south toward their wintering grounds in Mexico. This incredible little bird has the the longest migration in the world measured as distance travelled relative to body length. They travel almost 4000 miles or 6437 km in total, and up to 22 miles a day!
These birds are not only beautiful, they are also important pollinators. Help support your local ‘charm’ of hummingbirds by planting native flowers, bright colours and those with tubular shapes are their favorite. If you like using hummingbird feeders ensure that they are cleaned and sanitized regularly.
