2023 08: Aromatherapy Newsletter August 2023
Green Valley Aromatherapy – August 2023

Dear Aromatherapy Friends,
As it always seems to, the summer is just flying by. We have been getting some much needed precipitation here on Vancouver Island, which has created some anticipation for cozy fall days. With a good 2 weeks left of August, we will hopefully have a few more sunny days before the children head back to their classrooms and everyone else gets back into the more ‘normal’ day-to-day.
Wishing everyone a wonderful wrap up to summer 2023!
Aromatically yours,
Barb Greenwood
Profile on coffee essential oil

Who knew that this magical wee bean would have even more to offer than the kick of caffeine most of us can’t function without?! Yes, it’s true, the essential oil of coffee exists. The interesting thing about it though, is that it has the opposite effect that drinking an espresso does – coffee essential oil is considered to have a sedative effect, and some even say it has aphrodisiacal properties!
Coffee essential oil can be helpful for treating panic attacks, heart palpitations, or agitation as it may slow down rapid breathing. Coffee essential oil may induce a sensation of deep relaxation and balance. This oil is thought to be balancing for the skin and may sooth irritated skin while simultaneously stimulating dry skin to produce natural oil.

Profile on castor oil

Castor oil is a vegetable oil derived from the castor seed, Ricinus communis. Traditionally castor oil is used for skin problems, burns, sunburns, skin disorders, cuts and abrasions. It is a colorless to very pale yellow liquid with mild or no odour.
Castor oil is a humectant: it creates a protective barrier on the skin, and attracts and retains moisture. It is good for dry, chapped skin and is readily absorbed. It is said to dissolve cysts, growths and warts, and soften corns and prevent scars.
vanilla mocha sugar scrub
While we indulge in our summer fun, our self-care often becomes neglected. This recipe for a delicious sugar scrub will exfoliate your skin while it softens and moisturizes.
You’ll need the following:
1 cup White Sugar
1 tsp Cocoa Powder
1/2 cup Sweet Almond Oil
10 drops Coffee Essential Oil
10 drops Vanilla Essential Oil
In a large bowl, combine the white sugar and cocoa powder. Next, mix in the sweet almond oil, a little at a time, until it is well blended. Add the essential oils last and stir well. Store in container of your choosing. To use, scoop out desired amount (approx 2-3 tablespoon for full body) and apply using circular motions. Rinse well and moisturize with your favorite lotion.
did you know?
The beautiful gem stone, Peridot, is the official birthstone for those born in August? Said to be the stone of compassion and good fortune. The colour of this stone varies from a light yellow-green to a more vibrant olive.
A gem stone with an ancient history, it is considered one of the worlds oldest gems; there are ancient Egyptian papyrus scrolls that record the mining of peridot as early as 1500 B.C.

to banish them with illumination and forgiveness. Your willingness to wrestle with your demons
will cause your angels to sing”
