2024 02: Aromatherapy Newsletter February 2024

Green Valley Aromatherapy – February 2024

Dear Aromatherapy Friends,

We hope everyone on Vancouver Island and surrounding areas have recovered from our winter wonderland in mid-January and the incredible wind and rainstorms in late January and into early February! One never really knows how the weather will behave and this year is no different!

We have had several people coming in to inquire about immune-boosting essential oils and blends for the upper respiratory illnesses that they and their family can not seem to shake. Our favorites to diffuse include our Auntie Vi, Terminator and Sniff-B-Gone blends as well as Eucalyptus Globulus, Eucalyptus Radiata, Ravintsara, Lemon and Tea Tree essential oils.

Wishing you and yours all the best this February.

Aromatically yours,

Barb Greenwood

profile on rosemary essential oil

An incredibly valuable essential oil, Rosemary is a must-have in your aromatherapy kit.

Rosemary essential oil seems to have a remarkable effect on the central nervous system. It is an excellent brain stimulant, therefore great for inhaling to assist in achieving mental clarity; a perfect addition to your diffuser during a study session.

Its sharp quality also lends it to use when respiratory problems occur (common cold, sinusitis, bronchitis, asthma, etc). For these conditions, rosemary works best when used in a steam inhalation. Rosemary is thought to be a good analgesic to help relieve pain from rheumatism and arthritis, as well as pain from over worked muscles.

Rosemary can be found in the following blends: Energize, Sniff-B-Gone, Terminator and Transitions; as well as our Personal Start-Up Kit, Professional Start-Up Kit and Top 30 Kit.

profile on cocoa butter

The velvety texture, pleasant scent and emollient properties of cocoa butter have made it a popular ingredient in cosmetics, soaps and lotions for many years.

There is evidence that cocoa was used as medicine and even currency by Mayans and then the Aztecs approximately 3,000 years ago.

Cocoa butter is a fat that is extracted from the cocoa bean. Traditionally the beans are harvested from the larger cocoa plant, they’re then roasted, stripped and pressed to separate the fat, or cocoa butter. This extract is high in fatty acids, which can help to improve elasticity, and nourish the skin. It provides a protective barrier over the skin which aids in retaining hydration. Commonly used in skin care to help minimize the appearance of stretch marks, scars, and wrinkles; cocoa butter has also been known to bring relief to the symptoms of skin conditions like dermatitis and eczema. It has high oxidative stability as a result of being naturally rich in antioxidants and vitamin E.
