Dear Aromatherapy Friends,
Well we at Green Valley definitely fell for false spring, and were rewarded with a pretty spectacular second winter! Vancouver Island and surrounding areas saw all the weather at the beginning of March! Luckily, there have been a few sweet days with sun and blue skies, so we are feeling cautiously optimistic that true spring is on its way!
With spring come the new buds on trees and flowers, which, unfortunately for some, can bring on some significant allergies. Our Breath Easy and Sniff B Gone blends can help to alleviate the congestion and irritation in your sinuses and upper respiratory system.

Amyris essential oil is a musky, rich, exotic oil. It does not initially have a strong aroma, but it is persistent. Amyris essential oil is most commonly used as a fixative for perfumes and soaps. It also has some therapeutic qualities.
Amyris essential oil is known as the “poor man’s sandalwood”, although it is not Sandalwood at all but a bushy tree known as “Amyris”. Because of this, Amyris doesn’t really have the same smell as Sandalwood. Due to its sedative properties this oil may be calming and offer stress relief. Amyris essential oil has been known to have antiseptic, balsamic and antispasmodic properties, which make it useful for coughs, washing wounds, and helping to battle the flu. This essential oil may also have stress-relieving properties and is a good base note to use if you need an earthy, warm foundation to a blend.

Mix equal parts of each hydrosol (or adjust to suit your own preference) and shake gently to incorporate. It is recommended to store in the refrigerator to extend the shelf-life.

March 21, 2024 is National Fragrance Day!
Although it was in the early 1980s that perfume manufacturers launched National Fragrance Day to celebrate all the ways scents can improve our lives, we know that ‘fragrance’ encompasses far more than perfumes alone. In fact, research suggests smell and memory are so closely related because the olfactory bulb (responsible for processing all the smells we are exposed to) and the hippocampus (responsible for creating new memories) are adjacent to each other. This is why a waft of lavender can immediately transport you back to your grandmothers garden or the scent of chalk and socks can take you back to your 4th grade class room!
