Essential oils can play a big part in moving house. From creating a warm and welcoming space when showing your home to potential buyers, to helping you relax after all of your packing/ unpacking, essential oils are the perfect companion to help ease you through this time of change.

Essential Oils for house viewing

After you have finished your usual clean up, put some essential oils on a wash cloth and wipe around the cupboards and floors. You could use any citrus oils such as Lemon or a calming oil such as Lavender. This will make the whole room smell clean and welcoming.

If you have carpet in your home, mix baking soda in a baggie with a few drops of essential oil. Sprinkle the mixture onto the carpet. Let it sit overnight, and vacuum the following morning. Feel free to use whatever fresh smelling aroma you enjoy, as the scent will infuse itself into your home. If you have pets make sure to use pet friendly essential oils for carpet cleaning and keep pets out of the room until the area has been vacuumed.

A diffuser that is in your hallway or kitchen should contain a homey, relaxing oil. Coffee, Vanilla, or Cinnamon would be perfect to make the space feel welcoming. Use these oils by themselves, or mix them together to make the space feel warm and inviting.

Packing

When putting your belongings into storage, you may be worried about small animals getting into your boxes. To deter these creatures from rummaging through your possessions, put a few drops of Peppermint essential oil on an absorbent card and place inside your boxes. Not only does this stop unwanted visitors from going inside your belongings, it also leaves everything smelling nice and fresh.

Moving in

Change is not always easy. Try diffusing our blend called Transitions to help you through the move. This is a blend of Geranium, Lemon, Black Pepper and Rosemary essential oils that was developed to help you ease through life’s changes.

It is important to take care of yourself during this potentially stressful time. At the end of a long day, treat yourself to a nice warm bath with anti-inflammatory oils such as Roman Chamomile, Lavender or Patchouli. Soon enough you will be relaxed and ready for a good night’s sleep.

Now for the best part, moving in to your new home. It is time to unpack and settle the family in. Place a diffuser near the front door and diffuse your favourite essential oils. We recommend a combination of Lavender, Eucalyptus Citriodora and Ylang Ylang. Lavender is anti-anxiety, balancing and calming. Eucalyptus Citriodora is anti-inflammatory, antifungal and antibacterial. Ylang Ylang is an anti-depressant and a sedative. Your friends and family will feel at home right away.

As you can see, essential oils can be very helpful during the whole process of moving home. From cleaning to enticing new buyers, to relaxing after a hard day packing, essential oils have you covered.
