Using pure essential oils during pregnancy, labour and delivery can make the experience more enjoyable, less stressful and easier.
Using essential oils during the first trimester of your pregnancy is not recommended, particularly if you have had a miscarriage in the past. Some essential oils are uterine stimulants and can start early labour.
In the second and third trimester of pregnancy there are a number of beneficial essential oils which can be used, including:
- Bergamot essential oil
- Chamomile essential oil
- Frankincense essential oil
- Ginger essential oil
- Grapefruit essential oil
- Lavender essential oil
- Lemon essential oil
- Mandarin essential oil
- Neroli essential oil
- Orange essential oil
- Patchouli essential oil
- Petitgrain essential oil
- Rose essential oil
- Sandalwood essential oil
- Ylang Ylang essential oil
Hydrosols are great for freshening up at any time during your pregnancy and especially during hard labour.
