Description
Bay Laurel essential oil is aromatically crisp, fresh, sweet, balsamic and slightly spicy & peppery. Also known as ‘Laurel’ or ‘Bay’.
Bay Laurel is an upright evergreen shrub or small tree native to the area around the Mediterranean Sea. In ancient times, it was a symbol of prestige and victory. Since before the first Olympic games, the victorious had a crown of bay leaves placed upon their heads. In the book Aromatherapy for Healing the Spirit, Gabriel Mojay says, ‘Believing it conferred the power of divination, the Ancient Greeks would place the leaves under a pillow to stimulate dreams of prophecy. They also considered it a Herb of Protection-against lightning, evil, and disease. This association continued well into the Middle Ages, when it became traditional practice to plant a laurel tree by the front door of a house.’ Mojay goes on to say ‘Energetically, its (Bay Laurel essential oil) principal actions are to circulate and regulate the Qi-energy and to clear cold phlegm.’ And ‘Laurel oil’s diuretic and Qi-moving properties also make it helpful in cases of osteoarthritis and rheumatism, mainly of a cold, cramping nature.’ Mojay’s book Aromatherapy for Healing the Spirit is available for purchase in the book category.
